I believe God. I believe what He says is absolutely true. In Genesis 11:6, “The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.”  He was referring to the people who built the Tower of Babel and they were doing something wrong. You see this “unity principle,” works whether your goal is for the good or for the bad. A people who unify (and not allow division in their ranks) will accomplish what they set out to do.

In October, 2016, Pastor Adriene Boyd preached a series on unity. As a “unity project,” liked-minded members agreed to write a devotional as a group activity to practice the principles we had learned from the unity series.

The process was very interesting for several reasons:

  • Some people wanted to be a part of the project, but could not write. However, they had inspiring experiences with God that needed to be shared.

  • Some members did not know what to share, but were willing to participate in brainstorming sessions.

  • Some members knew how to write and had great stories to share, but did not want to attend the meetings;  so they emailed theirs.

  • Our pastor was very patient and allowed us to take months of Bible Study time to study scripture, share our stories, learn to write, and help each other stay motivated.  Many pastors would not have stayed out of their pulpits during the week day that long.

On September 24, 2017, we held a group book signing for the release of our group activity. It is a seventy day devotional entitled Praise from the Pews. Our friends and families came to celebrate with us. It was so exciting. We are living examples of the “unity principle.” God’s word is true. What a people set out to do with one mind, one voice, and one heart, they will accomplish.

Share a time when the “unity principle” worked in your life.
